Tom Carty, the award-winning copywriter at Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, has joined Gorgeous Enterprises as a director. However, he will continue to work for the agency despite basing himself at Gorgeous.
Carty, who has been awarded 21 D&AD Pencils during his career, will work at AMV on a project-by-project basis. He has already directed a number of ads through Gorgeous over the past year.
Carty said: 'I'm based at Gorgeous now, but I'll still write for the agency. I don't want to give up writing as it's nice to be able to do that with the way to direct it in mind.'
Carty and his partner, Walter Campbell, joined Dorlands in 1985. The team moved to TBWA for two years before joining BBDO in 1989. They moved on to AMV BBDO following its merger in 1991 and have carved themselves a top creative reputation.
The team has won critical acclaim for work including Kiss FM, British Telecom, Guinness, the RSPCA and the commercials 'stuntman' for Volvo and 'unexpected' for Dunlop Tyres, directed by Tony Kaye.
Paul Rothwell, the managing director of Gorgeous, said: 'Tom is undoubtedly one of the star creative talents in our business. His writer's showreel views like the highlights of all the awards shows over the past ten years. We'll be extremely happy to see his director's reel do the same.'
Peter Souter, the executive creative director of AMV, added: 'Tom will shoot some amazing films for Gorgeous and write some amazing films for us. If he does both at the same time, I'll be expecting Rothwell to give me a discount!'
