LONDON - CBS Outdoor, Global Radio, Yo! Sushi and News International make the headlines as Brand Republic rounds up the week's major industry moves across the advertising, marketing, digital and media markets.


Kitcatt Nohr Alexander Shaw has hired the award-winning creative director Angus Mackinnon as its digital creative director. Mackinnon joins the integrated agency from Nike, where he worked as the digital brand director EMEA. (From Campaign)

Miles Calcraft Briginshaw Duffy has appointed Carl Ratcliff, the former creative director of Five, as its new planning director. Ratcliff will join the agency at the start of November. The current planning director, Andy Nairn, will take on the newly created role of executive planning director. (From Campaign)


Omnicom has promoted Jonathan Nelson, chairman of its digital agency Organic, to chief executive of its newly formed group digital strategy unit, Omnicom Digital. (From Brand Republic)

Global Radio has appointed Ben Perreau, strategic content editor at BSkyB, to the new role of director of digital content. Perreau will be responsible for all online audience, editorial strategy and content across the Global Radio portfolio, including Heart, Classic, LBC and 95.8 Capital FM. (From Media Week)

Paul Lomax, GMG Regional's head of new media, has joined Dennis Publishing as chief technical officer. He will manage a team of 12 web developers and be involved in Dennis' single content management system for its print and digital products. (From Media Week)


Yo! Sushi, the Japanese conveyor-belt restaurant chain, has appointed Mark McCulloch as senior marketing manager to cover its 42-UK based restaurants. McCulloch joins from Barclaycard, where he was global senior brand manager. (From Marketing)

Molson Coors, brewer of Carling and Coors Light, has appointed David Preston to the position of interim marketing director. He replaces Simon Davies, who leaves the business after 13 years today (October 2). Davies is to set up creative services agency MMIXX. (From Marketing)


News International is setting up a new strategy and product development unit and has drafted in Al Trivino, the man credited with designing thelondondpaper, to head the creative element of the division. The unit will be headed by Dominic Young, director of strategy and project development, who will report to Katie Vanneck, managing director of customer direct at News International. News Corp has made a string of hires to its newly formed Digital Media Group, including a new head of global operations, Dan Fawcett. As general counsel and executive vice-president of business affairs, Fawcett will oversee business and legal affairs for the new group. Jack Kennedy has been named executive vice-president of operations. Jorge Espinel has been appointed executive vice-president of strategy and corporate development.

In addition, Hemanshu Nigam will serve as the Digital Media Group's senior vice-president of safety, security and privacy. Completing the hires, Roy Bahat has been promoted to the role of president of IGN Entertainment. (From Media Week)

Tim Bleakley, managing director of sales and marketing at outdoor media owner CBS Outdoor has resigned to pursue "other commercial ventures" following a management restructure. International chief executive Antonio Alonso will take over day-to-day running of the UK business. (From Media Week)

IPC has appointed Kate Matharu as editor of The monthly magazine and associated website targets women in their forties. The site currently attracts 146,000 unique visitors a month. (From Media Week)

Robert Webb, former general counsel at British Airways, has been appointed non-executive chairman of BBC Worldwide, replacing Etienne de Villiers who steps down this month. (From Media Week)

Aegis Media's Vizeum is set to lose senior strategist Chris Stephenson, who is returning to Omnicom's PHD network. On 30 November, Stephenson is relocating to Sydney to become the new strategy director at PHD Australia. (From Media Week)

JCDecaux has strengthened its sales team with the appointment of three new business development managers, Lauren Baines, Joti Rai and Hannah St Paul. Baines will work across Première, JCDecaux's premium portfolio. St Paul joins group head Ged Glover's team at JCDecaux and will work across the Starcom MediaVest and Kinetic groups. Rai will work on JCDecaux's StreetTalk phonebox advertising. (From Media Week)

Discovery Networks has appointed Chris Shaw as the senior vice-president for commercial development across EMEA and the UK. Shaw, the former EMEA head of Universal McCann, will lead Discovery's attempt to build revenue in areas such as sponsorship and brand partnerships. (From Campaign)

Matthew Mycock, managing director of magazine distributor Frontline, is leaving after three and a half years with the business. Mycock joined Frontline in 2006 from Levi Strauss UK & Ireland, where he was general manager. (From Media Week)
