- The final shake-out of Trinity Mirror has ended with the departure of the newspaper group's chief operating officer, John Allwood.

Allwood, who was chief executive of the Mirror Group before it merged with Trinity Newspapers, has left the company without a job to go to. His departure was announced during Trinity Mirror's trading update, which revealed steady advertising revenue growth across its portfolio of national and regional titles.

Commenting on his resignation, Allwood said: "It's time to look for something else to do."

Philip Graf, the chief executive of Trinity Mirror, said: "John's contribution to the success of Trinity Mirror, and in particular the integration of the two businesses, has been very significant."

Advertising revenues across Mirror Group's national titles grew 5.4 per cent in the six months to the beginning of July. The company's regional titles grew their revenue by 7.3 per cent.
