United News and Media’s sales arm TSMS is on the verge of

announcing a massive reorganisation of its sales operations.

According to sources close to the company, the 100-strong sales force -

which is divided into six sales teams, each headed by an account

director - is being merged into two groups.

Nick Smith, the former account director of the now defunct small

agencies group, is leaving the company.

In response to the recent departures of senior sales staff, TSMS has

promoted a number of sales people to senior management positions. It is

also looking to recruit two new account directors and strategic

planners.

Two account directors, Chris Nicholls and Simon Lent, are being promoted

to group account directors.

An inside source also confirmed that Mike Elsey has been promoted to

business development manager across the whole of TSMS sales. He was

previously the account director of Welsh Channel S4C’s account.

Agency sources said that the mood within the sales house was one of

uncertainty, prompted by news of the possible merger between United News

and Media and Carlton.

TSMS’s chief executive Jerry Hill was unavailable for comment, but it is

believed that the company’s restructure will be made public at the end

of next week.

TSMS sells on behalf of Anglia, Meridian, HTV, S4C, Scottish TV, Ulster

TV and the digital channel S2.
