Summers, who has spent 14 years in a variety of roles at PepsiCo, most recently as marketing director for Quaker and Tropicana, will join the specialist tea brand in August.

Twinings has also promoted former marketing director Claire Hodge to the role of global innovation director.

As marketing director, Hodge oversaw an ad review that led to the business being divided between Adam & Eve, WCRS and Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO.

According to Nielsen, sales of Twinings' Everyday tea  reached £11.9m in 2009, a year-on-year rise of 14.6%.
