United Business Media (UBM), formerly known as Miller Freeman, is

looking for an ad director for its Pulse and Practitioner medical

titles.

Current ad chief Fergus Wilson has been made publishing director of

UBM’s pharmacy group, which also publishes Chemist & Druggist.

Steve Macauley has been recruited from the British Medical Journal to

take over Wilson’s responsibilities for special projects in the medical

division.

These projects include finding sponsors for the titles’ one-off medical

supplements such as The Management of Diabetes, a series of supplements

sponsored by Glaxo Wellcome.

Wilson joined UBM in its previous incarnation as Morgan Grampian in

1993, working for the medical division.

At UBM he was initially advertisement manager of Financial Pulse, and

worked in a variety of capacities before becoming ad director of Pulse

and Practitioner.

Wilson said there are challenges ahead for the pharmacy advertising

market as there is a court case in October regarding resale price

maintenance.

He said this might have an effect on advertising from the big chains of

chemists such as Boots and Lloyds, who may push their adspend into

targeting consumers rather than the trade.

United Business Media is the new name for Miller Freeman’s publishing

and exhibitions business.

Wilson will take up his new position on 17 July.
