Unilever's UK subsidiaries, Lever Brothers and Elida Faberge, are merging to create a new company called Lever Faberge.
Keith Weed, chairman of Elida Faberge, will head the integrated business.
James Hill, who has been chairman of Lever Brothers for the past two years, will take up another senior post within Unilever, yet to be announced.
Unilever has already merged its home and personal care subsidiaries in most parts of Europe and the new UK company will adopt an existing Lever Faberge logo.
Lever Brothers brands include Persil, Domestos, Comfort and Cif. Elida Faberge boasts personal care products such as Lynx, Impulse, Timotei, Sure and Dove.
The merger will not affect advertising arrangements. Lowe Lintas looks after the Sure brands, and works on Domestos and Cif. J Walter Thompson handles Persil and Organics.
The two companies already share central functions such as customer development, human resources and IT.
