Unilever has given a huge boost to the confidence of the online

marketing sector by signing deals with Internet specialist America

Online (AOL) and Microsoft to develop global web campaigns.

The agreements, estimated to be worth over pounds 20m, will run for

three years.

These will enable the Anglo-Dutch conglomerate to promote hundreds of

its brands - ranging from food to detergents and cosmetics - on the

internet.

The new initiative is led by Unilever’s Foods and Home & Personal Care

business groups in North America, but brands will also be marketed via

online services in the UK, Germany, France, Japan, Canada and

Australia.

Unilever will work with AOL on developing web advertising as well as

creating customised programming and promotional areas.

With software giant Microsoft, the firm will develop new approaches to

advertising on the web as well as advertising on Microsoft’s online

network services.
