Universal McCann hires Brian Jacobs

Ben Langdon, the regional director of Universal McCann Europe, the

Middle East & Africa, has restructured his senior management team as he

looks to bolster the network's multinational client base.

Brian Jacobs, the former managing director of Carat International, joins

Universal Europe as the executive vice-president, head of worldwide

accounts.

Jacobs left Carat just before Christmas following a series of management

changes in late 1999 (Campaign, 19 January).

Langdon, who was appointed to his media role last year, said: 'Brian's

position is especially important as the environment in which clients

operate continues to change rapidly, and new business models, as well as

new skills, are needed. We need someone like Brian to ensure that

Universal gets in with the right people at the right levels.'

Kay McCarthy, the strategic planning director of McCann-Erickson Dublin,

has been promoted to the strategic planning director of Universal

EMEA.

She will work alongside Universal's global research director, Jim

Kite.

Langdon has also extended the remit of Chris Shaw, the chairman of

Universal McCann UK & Ireland Group, giving him the additional titles of

executive vice-president of Universal Interactive EMEA and Universal

Programming EMEA.

Langdon said: 'We have strong online units in all key European markets,

but we will now form the next generation pan-regional interactive

division.

Chris's job is to create a pan-regional Universal Programming division

that is part of a strong US-EMEA axis.'
