Virgin Media appoints Wheeler to new head of music role

LONDON - Virgin Media has appointed its first head of music in a bid to develop its music strategy including new services across mobile, TV and online.

Richard Wheeler is joining the company from Orange UK where he was head of music and film partnerships. The newly created role will see Wheeler bring his experience of driving revenue through music to Virgin Media.

Prior to joining Orange, where he led the company's UK content partnerships, personalisation and acquisition activity, Wheeler spent five years at Sanctuary Music Group where he was appointed to vice-president of digital business development.

He joins Virgin Media as the company looks to take advantage of changes in the music industry.

Jon James, director of broadband at Virgin Media, said: "It’s a time of great change and opportunity in the music business and Virgin Media is uniquely well-placed to bring innovative new services to consumers, thanks to our fibre optic network.

"Virgin Media has a strong brand heritage in music and, coupled with Richard's outstanding wealth of experience and in-depth understanding of the needs of artists, labels and consumers, we’ll continue to build our presence in music."
