Virgin Radio is to double the size of its sales teams - and hand

the existing sales staff a bonus of 10 per cent of their salaries -

following Scottish Media Group’s acquisition of Ginger Media Group.

Under a new structure to be imposed by SMG, cinema advertiser Pearl &

Dean, outdoor poster company Primesight and Virgin Radio will be

centralised as one London-based company.

Each company will run a separate sales operation in the short term, but

each division will report to David Campbell, CEO at Ginger, who will

head the new national media sales organisation.

Lee Roberts, acting sales director at Virgin, said the company is

looking for people to work in the client and agency sales teams and is

also recruiting for a new contract broadcasting sales arm.

Roberts said the newly expanded sales division would ’develop new brand

concepts outside of the conventional radio framework’. The team will

begin by developing internet radio usage.

Virgin Radio’s chief executive John Pearson said cross-media selling was

still a way off, but added that it was becoming ’inevitable as ad

agencies centralise’.
