The Volunteer Bureau is using sex to sell charity work in a new poster campaign launching in London this week. The ads, which show a skimpily dressed couple about to lock in a passionate embrace, carry the headline: "The nation's second favourite pastime..." At the bottom, the sentence is completed: "...is voluntary work, actually." The posters, which will be converted into postcards and distributed in cafes and bars in Kensington and Chelsea, also publish a phone number for the VB and explain: "thousands of people are doing it all the time...you could too." Miranda Godfrey, the campaigns officer at the VB, said: "We are very keen to change the rather old fashioned image of volunteering, which no longer reflects most of the voluntary sector." She explained: "Volunteers are now younger, often involved in full-time work and many more men are involved than was the case ten years ago."
