Volkswagen is the only advertiser nominated in both the press and

poster categories at this year’s British Design & Art Direction

awards.

BMP DDB’s work for the car client, which picked up three silver pencils

at the 1998 D&AD awards, earned a single nomination in the poster

category and the only three to be conferred in the press advertising

category.

The outdoor nomination was for BMP’s lenticular tube poster for the VW

Polo, while the press work received nominations in the newspaper

campaign, mixed-media campaign and individual newspaper ad

categories.

Meanwhile, TBWA GGT Simons Palmer’s ’double life’ commercial for Sony

PlayStation was nominated in several categories, including TV and cinema

ads of up to 60 seconds, direction, editing and use of music. ’Swim

black’, Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO’s first Guinness commercial, received

three nominations, including one for direction.

Among the nominations in the direct marketing category was FCA!’s Wales

Tourist Board campaign, which picked up a gold at this year’s Campaign

Direct awards.

The D&AD judging panel selected 91 nominations for gold and silver

awards from a record 17,107 entries. The awards ceremony will be held at

London’s Olympia.

David Kester, chief executive of D&AD, said: ’1999 is proving to be a

very strong year for the D&AD awards.’
