W&K lands £100m Visa football task

LONDON - Following a nine-month pitch process Wieden & Kennedy has been appointed to handle the £100 million global advertising duties for Visa’s Fifa World Cup sponsorship.

The agency picked up the business following a review that included all of the credit card company's roster agencies. These are Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R, TBWA\Chiat\Day, 180 Amsterdam and Saatchi & Saatchi London.

Wieden will now create global campaigns for ten Fifa World Cup events, including South Africa 2010, the Women's World Cup, to be held in China in 2008, and the Under 20's World Cup in Canada.

John Elkins, the executive vice-president of Visa International, said: "We are very excited to be activating the FIFA World Cup sponsorship and thrilled that Wieden & Kennedy will be partnering with us on developing the Visa football (soccer) campaign."
