Walker Media has been appointed to oversee the media buying for

WorkThing.com, the new online recruitment site owned by Guardian Media

Group (Media Business, 22 May).

Nicki Hare will head the account, estimated to be worth around pounds 20

million.

The media planning will be allocated over the next few weeks once Niall

Murdoch, head of marketing at WorkThing, has recruited a creative

agency.

The site, which launches in the summer, is described by WorkThing’s

managing director Andy Baker as a ’complete employment network featuring

anything to do with work’. It provides content from The Guardian’s

recruitment section and is being billed as a mass-market website rather

than career specific. It will offer a searchable database of jobs and

training information.

The sales team of 25 intends to generate revenue not only from

advertising but also by charging employers for access to CV databases

and by promoting training courses.

Walker Media has handled planning and buying for a number of internet

brands, including Lastminute.com, which it resigned, as well as

SharePeople, E-Fax, Excite, and LastOrders.

WorkThing is the latest careers website that has been created by

Guardian Media Group, which also houses the Jobs Unlimited site. It also

has a stake in Fish4Jobs.
