- The online reward scheme WebRewards.com is to expand onto the high street following the news that Bertelsmann Services has bought a 70 per cent stake in the company. The news follows the development earlier this week that Beenz.com will also be expanding its loyalty scheme into bricks and mortar supermarkets.

The Bertelsmann Services Group, which has taken the stake in WebMiles AG, WebRewards' parent company, is one of Europe's biggest providers of offline loyalty scheme providers.

Joint managing directors of WebRewards.co.uk Mark Read and Gary Morrison said that the brand will roll out into the offline world in the next six to twelve months. Although collection of WebRewards will be possible both offline and on the web, the redemption of them will remain online.

They said: "We are delighted to have an investment from such a strong partner as Bertlesmann. The combination of our online expertise and experience with Bertelsmann Services Group's offline expertise will substantially strengthen our position in the market."
