The Week: Advertising News - ASA to probe Virgin Trains

The Advertising Standards Authority is to investigate claims made in a Virgin Trains ad about its green credentials, following a complaint by easyJet.

The campaign, created by Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R, boasts that a Virgin train journey emits three-quarters less carbon dioxide than a comparable trip by air. The move is another sign of how the environment is increasingly becoming a battleground for travel companies in their marketing campaigns. Last month, the ASA ruled easyJet had "inaccurately portrayed" the environmental benefits of its planes.
