A ban on price promotion-based alcohol advertising is being demanded by a coalition of public health experts and campaigners.

They have told the Committee of Advertising Practice that the current rules encourage supermarkets to compete on cut-price alcohol promotions, which contribute to increased consumption and an "escalating public health crisis". The group said it was particularly keen to see a ban on price-based TV alcohol advertising because this was more likely to be seen by children.
