The Week: Advertising news - DM Commission launches

The Direct Marketing Commission, a new self-regulatory body for the UK direct marketing sector, launched earlier this month.

The DMC will handle complaints from the public and businesses on inappropriate or unethical practices. It will sit separately from the Direct Marketing Association to ensure the industry complies with the code of practice on direct marketing. Matti Alderson, the former director-general of the Advertising Standards Authority and a Press Complaints Commissioner, has been appointed as the DMC's independent chairman.
