The UK Film Council is looking to emulate the success of Eurostar's backing of Shane Meadows' film Somers Town by setting up a third-party venture that would secure funding for films from brands.

Box office takings from British films hit a record £850 million last year, but funding from traditional backers, such as broadcasters and the City, has slowed, forcing film-makers to look at other options.
