The Week: Advertising News - Govt praises adland

The creative industries are as important to Britain's economy as the financial services sector, according to a report from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport through the think tank The Work Foundation.

Creative sectors including advertising, TV and publishing were hailed as a "great unsung success story" by the report, which found that creative businesses generated an export value of £4.3 billion in 2002 and employ 1.8 million people. However, the report warned growth could slow without future "targeted public investment".
