The Week: Advertising news - Govt to tackle 'guilt-trips'

The Government is considering a crackdown on charities that send money in an envelope to guilt-trip recipients into donating.

The Charities Act 2006 includes a reserve power that allows government to intervene against poor direct mail practices. Responding to a complaint by the Conservative peer Baroness Trumpington, Baroness Crawley said the Government could intervene in 2011 when its funding for the Fundraising Standards Board is due to expire.
