The Week: Advertising news - 'Green' EDF faces probes

EDF Energy has been threatened with legal action from its rival energy provider Ecotricity, after Ecotricity claimed that the green flag branding used by EDF to promote its Green Energy Day is too similar to its own.

Ecotricity first introduced the green Union Jack concept in 2007, to welcome Prime Minister Gordon Brown into power. Separately, EDF is also being investigated by the Advertising Standards Authority, after 84 people complained that the ad could mislead the public into thinking that EDF is both green and British.
