The Week: Advertising News - IOC approves Nike's ads

Nike has been handed a waiver by the International Olympic Committee allowing it to run ads featuring competing athletes during the Games in Beijing, despite Adidas, an official sponsor, not being given the same rights.

IOC regulations say that no commercial companies can feature athletes in brand activity while the Olympics are running. Many have complained that the Nike ruling is unfair and sets a precedent for the future, but the IOC has said that regulations will be stricter for the 2012 Olympics in London.
