The Week: Advertising news - ISPs slammed by Ofcom

Internet service providers such as Tiscali and AOL are failing to live up to claims made in their ads about broadband speeds, a new report has found.

The survey, conducted by Ofcom, revealed that the Carphone Warehouse-owned Tiscali only provides consumers who subscribe to its "up to 8 megabits per second" service with average download speeds of between 3.2 and 3.7 megabits per second. The report also found that consumers who subscribe to similar "8 megabits" packages with AOL and BT also struggle to receive download speeds faster than 4 megabits per second.
