The Week: Advertising news - MPs blast 'reckless' RBS

The Royal Bank of Scotland, in which the Government now holds a 70 per cent stake, has come under fire for spending £200 million on sponsorship deals with sports stars.

A member of the Treasury Committee, John Mann MP, has deemed the sponsorship deals, with stars such as Zara Phillips, Jack Nicklaus and Andy Murray, "reckless". Mann has also called for the sports stars to opt out of the contracts with the bank, which was bailed out last year by £20 billion of public funds.
