The Week: Advertising news - Qtrax service to launch in UK

A new advertising-supported music download service announced it is to launch in the UK, backed by record companies including Universal Music, Sony BMG and EMI.

McDonald's, Burger King, Samsung, Ford and Microsoft have already signed up to the service, called Qtrax, which will pay the record companies licensing fees by selling ads that will run each time a song is played. However, the record labels involved have criticised the announcement, saying they had yet to sign deals and that negotiations were still ongoing.
