The Week: Advertising News - Saatchis probes ad leak

Saatchi & Saatchi is considering action against the employee who posted images of its deceased rock stars campaign for Dr Martens on a US website, prompting widespread controversy.

Dr Martens fired the agency after the four print ads, which feature Kurt Cobain, Joe Strummer, Sid Vicious and Joey Ramone wearing Dr Martens boots in heaven, appeared online. The ads were originally cleared by the client for a one-off campaign in the UK in Fact magazine.

Kate Stanners, Saatchis' executive creative director, said: "We believe the ads are edgy, but not offensive. We regret that the controversy has led Dr Martens to terminate the contract with Saatchi & Saatchi. We are investigating the circumstances and considering the ongoing employment of the individual who was in breach of instructions."
