The Week: Advertising News - UK marketing budgets grow

The UK's marketing spend is growing, according to the latest Bellwether Report, but there are fears that the recent credit crisis could lead to a cut in budgets.

In the third quarter of 2007, nearly one quarter of companies reported increased marketing spend, and 15 per cent reported a decrease, leaving a positive balance of 8.3 per cent. However, there are signs budgets are now being trimmed, particularly in the financial services providers and automobile sectors. Spend on television, press, radio, cinema, the internet and outdoor went up by the most significant amount in the report's history, but direct marketing budgets showed a 0.5 per cent decline.
