The Week: B&Q kick-starts review of £40m advertising account

B&Q, the DIY retailer, has called a review of its £40 million advertising account.

The incumbent, JWT, has not yet decided whether or not it will repitch for the business. The review is being handled by the AAR, which is putting together a shortlist of agencies. An appointment is expected in the summer.

The retailer has also appointed Rapier to work on a strategic project for an initial six-month period while it completes its review. B&Q has worked with JWT since 2003 when the agency bought Bates, the former incumbent.

Warren Scarr, the director of brand advertising at B&Q, said: "As everyone is well aware, the retail marketplace is extremely competitive, and we owe it to our staff and shareholders to ensure that we are working with an agency that best meets our needs in both the current environment and the longer term."
