The Week: Brand News - Hamleys in safety scare

Hamleys, the Regent Street toy retailer, has become the latest high-profile victim of the Chinese toy safety scandal, after it was forced to pull two jewellery products because they contained dangerous quantities of lead. A bracelet and a pendant were discovered by The Sunday Times to contain more than 93 per cent and 27 per cent lead respectively, well over the UK limit of 0.1 per cent. Last week, the toy manufacturer Mattel recalled more than two million Chinese-manufactured toys in the UK and 18 million worldwide over safety concerns about loose magnets and lead-based paint.
