The Week: Brand News - Unilever to cull workforce

Unilever is to cut 20,000 of its 179,000-strong global workforce over the next four years. It also plans to sell off £1.3 billion worth of its weaker brands as part of a global restructure. The staff cuts will focus on the company's European operations, but they are unlikely to affect the marketing department, which is being restructured as part of its One Unilever programme. Patrick Cescau, the Unilever chairman, declined to comment on which brands were likely to be sold.
