BSkyB has bought Sir Alan Sugar's Amstrad company for £125 million this week, in a deal that surprised the City. The 150p-a-share cash offer for the technology company was made at a 24 per cent premium to share price. Sugar has netted a personal £34.5 million from the sale. He will stay on to run the business under its new owners. Amstrad is a major supplier of set-top boxes to Sky.
