The Week: City news - JCDecaux in profits plunge

The outdoor company JCDecaux has reported a dramatic fall in profits in the first half of this year. The UK market showed the worst performance, with revenues dropping 32.8 per cent.

The outdoor media owner's profits fell from EUR100.9 million (£86 million) in the first half of 2008 to EUR4.4 million (£3.75 million) in the first six months of 2009. In addition, Jean-Francois Decaux, the chief executive of JCDecaux, has signalled his interest in buying the US assets of Clear Channel or CBS Outdoor to make JCDecaux the largest outdoor company in the world.
