The Week: City News - NewsCorp changes sought

Almost a quarter of News Corporation shareholders voted this week to be given greater democracy within Rupert Murdoch's media empire by moving its dual-class voting structure to a "one share, one vote" system.

Murdoch defended the current structure, saying that it allowed management to take more risks and protected the company from takeover bids. The proposal has little chance of success, as the Murdoch family controls 30 per cent of the company's votes.
