The Week: City news - Subscriber boost for BSkyB

BSkyB's share price passed 600 pence for the first time since August 2004 last week, after the broadcaster showed better than expected subscriber growth in the wake of its well publicised dispute with Virgin Media.

In its first-quarter results last week, the satellite broadcaster said it had added 51,000 customers, almost double the 27,400 forecast by City analysts.

The strong subscriber growth, which increased Sky's total television base to 8.49 million, lifted shares by 55 per cent to 616.5 pence.
