The Week: City News - Waitrose reports sales rise

Waitrose has reported an increase in total sales for the week ending 7 November of 17.1 per cent, and attributed the rise to a recent Marks & Spencer ad campaign.

The M&S press ads showed a series of products, such as tea bags, penne pasta and teacakes, on which the retailer beat Waitrose on price. However, Waitrose has stated that the campaign has actually helped it experience its highest sales growth in a normal trading week since 2006, thanks to the ads highlighting both the quality and value of its products.
