The Week: COI consolidates £9m climate change account into AMV

COI has consolidated its £9 million climate change account into Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO. The agency already handles the £5 million climate change work for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and now adds the Department for Transport's £4 million brief, which was handled by Leo Burnett.

The government department is also considering asking PHD and MindShare, which handle the communications planning briefs for Defra and the DfT respectively, to pitch for the overall account.

The move marks the first time that COI has commissioned a single creative agency to work on multiple campaigns for one brand across different government departments.

Burnett and AMV went head-to-head for the account, and were asked to produce an integrated campaign encouraging the public to "Act on CO2".

Burnett won the DfT account in July 2006, while AMV secured its Defra climate change business in January this year.
