The Week: COI's Bishop quits to take reins at Southbank Centre

Alan Bishop, the chief executive of the COI, has quit to join London's Southbank Centre as chief executive.

Bishop, a former chairman at Saatchi & Saatchi International, will join the organisation early in the New Year. He succeeds Michael Lynch, who had occupied the role since 2002.

Bishop began his advertising career at Bates London in 1974. He then became a founding partner of start up agency Milton Sharam Gottlieb, before moving on to Foote Cone & Belding in 1981. From there he joined Saatchi & Saatchi, where he held a number of senior positions.

He was made COI chief executive in November 2002 and later successfully persuaded the Department of Transport to return to the COI fold following its split to form its own agency roster.

Graham Hooper, COI's director of client service and strategy, and Simon MacDowell, the director of communications and marketing at HM Revenue & Customs, are among those tipped to replace him.
