The news broke at the end of last week when Bob Jeffrey, the worldwide chief executive at JWT, sent out an all-staff e-mail. It said: "This was a long-debated decision that Craig and his wife, Jo, began to discuss with me last year."
JWT is now beginning the task of looking to employ a successor and Davis will remain with the network until then to "ensure a smooth transition". Davis said: "We've been gone ten years. It's time to get reacquainted with the place. I'll be heading back early next year. There are a few conversations going on about my next move, but no definite plans."
The creative, who joined the network in 2004, assumed the then new post of worldwide chief creative officer in January 2005, after a year of leading JWT's creative efforts across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
