The Week: Mastercard drops Fifa case

Mastercard is to drop its legal fight to get sponsorship of the next two football World Cups as part of a $90 million settlement hammered out with the football governing body Fifa. The credit-card company, which has sponsored the tournament for 16 years, said it no longer wanted to work with Fifa, leaving the way clear for a new deal with Mastercard's rival Visa, to be signed imminently.
