The Week: Media news - Airey plays down Five fears

Dawn Airey, the chairman and chief executive of Five, has assured staff that Bertelsmann, which controls the broadcaster's parent company, RTL, remains committed to it.

She e-mailed staff after Thomas Rabe, Bertelsmann's chief financial officer, said that Five was "not sustainable". Airey referred to comments by Gerhard Zeiler, the RTL chief executive, who said: "We remain as committed to Five as we have been during the last 12 years." Airey said: "You can't get clearer than that."
