The Week: Media news - Barber tips online charges

Lionel Barber, the editor of the Financial Times, has predicted that almost all news organisations will charge for digital content within a year.

He said that the key challenge facing the industry was building online platforms that could charge readers, such as article-by-article or on a subscription basis. In May, Rupert Murdoch said that he expected his News Corporation websites to be charging for content by the end of 2009.
