The Week: Media News - BBC stays silent on salaries

The BBC has refused to publish salaries of its star presenters, saying viewers do not consider it a priority.

The news comes as the Tories request details of the pay of stars including Jonathan Ross, Graham Norton and Jeremy Paxman. The corporation last week published exact salaries and expenses claims of more than 100 of its highest level executives.

It will disclose in January that a small group of its talent earns a total of more than £70 million a year.
