Channel 4 is launching a social networking application on Facebook and Bebo in a bid to attract a youth audience to its flagging reality series Big Brother, which returns this week for its ninth series.

The digital agency Panlogic has created the application, which allows users to view, rate and share video content from the programme. Big Brother slipped to its lowest-ever ratings last year, with an average audience of 3.8 million per show.
