The Week: Media News - Capital audience shrinks

Capital Radio slumped to the fourth-most-listened-to radio station in London, after recording its lowest-ever audience share in the latest Rajars.

Capital, once one of GCap's most reliable market leaders, recorded a market share of 4.1 per cent, behind London rivals Heart and Magic, with 6.2 per cent each, and Kiss, with 4.5 per cent. Overall, the commercial radio stations gained some ground on the BBC, growing audience share to 43.5 per cent for the second quarter, up from 42.1 per cent for the first three months. Although the BBC's overall share was down, at 54.3 per cent, Radio 1's breakfast show, presented by Chris Moyles, posted audience figures of 7.26 million, up by nearly 500,000 on the same period last year.
