The Week: Media News - Capital lifts audience share

Global Radio's Capital Radio has boosted its hopes of returning to London's number-one commercial station by recording a 5.4 per cent audience share in the latest Rajars, just behind the top-placed Magic with 5.8 per cent.

While Capital's reach fell by 1.1 per cent to 1.59 million from the second to third quarter, its share of listening rose from 4.6 per cent to 5.4 per cent. Johnny Vaughan's Capital breakfast show returned to the number-one spot in London with an average weekly audience of 862,000 listeners. On a national basis, Global Radio's Heart more than doubled its share of national listening to 5.4 per cent after incorporating the majority of GCap's former One network local stations.
