The Week: Media news - Channel TV calls in police

Channel Television has asked Ofcom to call in the police to investigate "criminal fraud" relating to the 2004 and 2005 British Comedy Awards.

Channel TV was fined £80,000 by Ofcom, although it accepted that the broadcaster was not directly responsible. The first fine, of £45,000, was for finalising the People's Choice Award in both years too early. The second fine, of £35,000, was for substituting the People's Choice Award winner, The Catherine Tate Show, with Ant And Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway in 2005.
