The Week: Media news - Court wants YouTube details

A US court has ordered Google to release the personal details of anyone who has ever viewed a video clip on YouTube, as a result of a court case between the internet giant and MTV's parent company Viacom.

YouTube, which is being sued by Viacom for $1 billion, will have to release all of the IP addresses, YouTube account details, e-mail addresses, and a history of every video and who has watched it as a result of the order. The decision has prompted complaints from civil rights groups who are concerned that revealing the information could breach privacy laws.
