Discovery Communications is gearing up to launch a new channel brand in the UK after netting a Freeview slot at auction.

In a shift away from its traditional paid-for TV model, the broadcaster, which also owns channels such as the Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and Discovery Science, plans to launch a free-to-view channel. As well as screening new content that hasn't been aired on its channels before, the new Discovery channel will draw on its back catalogue of factual, entertainment and lifestyle programming.
